Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning adding more DLC

Achievement listing indicates Big Huge Games' action role-playing game set to expand with additional add-on content.

The world of Amalur is not finished growing just yet. As spotted by Xbox360Achievements, new mystery downloadable content is headed to Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.

The site reports there will be six new achievements worth 150 gamerscore to pick up with the future downloadable content. The tasks include killing 50 Pteryx, falling off the Idylla Concourse and dying, and defeating Kahrunk without killing any of his attendants.

It is unclear when the mystery content will be released and how much it will cost. As of press time, publisher Electronic Arts had not responded to GameSpot's request for comment.

The unnamed content will follow previously released Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning DLC House of Valor and The Legend of Dead Kel, the latter of which launched last week. For more on the main game, check out GameSpot's review.

FBI using Unreal Engine 3 crime scene sim

Cadet training program among a number of uses for Gears of War tech in Epic's new Unreal Government Network.

Epic Games' Unreal Engine 3 has powered fictional games like Gears of War 3 and Mass Effect 3, but now the technology is being used to assist real-world endeavors at government bodies like the FBI Academy through the just-launched Unreal Government Network.

Epic Games today announced a long-term Unreal 3 reseller agreement with Virtual Heroes, an interactive learning simulation company based in Raleigh, North Carolina. As part of the deal, agencies and units of United States and allied governments will make use of Epic's game engine for a variety of purposes through the UGN.

Numerous projects that are part of the UGN are already under way. The FBI Academy is using the Unreal Engine 3 to create a multiplayer crime scene simulator to train its cadets. Additionally, a "top-five defense contractor" and a "national laboratory" are using Epic's tech for custom-made model "integrations and visualization."

On top of that, the technology is being used by Virtual Heroes and Duke University to create an anesthesiology training application for Army physicians. A HumanSim platform aimed at medical education and training is also in the works.

Virtual Heroes put itself on the map with its contributions to the high-profile recruitment and training game America's Army, which runs on the Unreal engine. The studio and its parent company, Applied Research Associates, employ more than 170 at the company's office in North Carolina.

Shippin' Out March 18-24: Kid Icarus 3DS

Nintendo's angelic adventurer leads a formation full of new releases at retailers, including Ninja Gaiden 3, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, Armored Core V.

It has been more than 20 years since the last original Kid Icarus game was released. That drought ends this week, as Nintendo's cherubic mascot Pit makes his 3DS debut in Kid Icarus: Uprising on the 3DS. However, Kid Icarus is by no means flying solo on the new release shelves this week, as new installments in the Resident Evil and Ninja Gaiden series lead up a deep slate of notable debuts.

As with previous Kid Icarus games, Uprising sees Pit taking on the evil Medusa, although this new iteration will feature him fighting the forces of evil in the skies as well as on land. Additionally, the game features a multiplayer mode where up to six 3DS owners can take each other on in teams of three. The game will also come bundled with a 3DS stand to let players focus on playing the system without worrying about holding it up.

Pit isn't the only gaming celebrity receiving a new title, as Ryu Hayabusa returns in Ninja Gaiden 3. The latest entry in Team Ninja's action series adds a few new elements to the formula, including competitive and cooperative online multiplayer for up to eight players. The PS3 version of the game will also feature PlayStation Move support, which Team Ninja head Yosuke Hayashi has said is intended to "bring players closer to" Hayabusa.

Capcom has another zombie hunting game on tap for consumers in the form of Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City. Developed by Slant Six, Operation Raccoon City offers a squad-based shooter take on Capcom's seminal survival horror series. The game puts players in control of a half-dozen special commandos employed by The Umbrella Corporation, the sinister pharmaceutical company whose unethical experiments caused the series' rash of zombie outbreaks in the first place.

Another long-running Japanese series returns this week as From Software and Namco Bandai launch Armored Core V. The game maintains the franchise's focus on high-octane mech combat and comprehensive customization options, although this installment features smaller mechs to encourage tactical gameplay. From Software has focused on delivering more content this time around by incorporating new environments and enhancing the game's offline mode. Online modes will also be available, and they'll emphasize large-scale, team-based battles.

For further details, visit GameSpot's New Releases page. The full list of downloadable games on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Live Marketplace, and Wii Shop Channel will be revealed later this week. Release dates are based on retailer listings and are subject to change.

Stripped-down Xbox due in late 2013 - Report

Noted Microsoft blogger says new ARM-powered console will ship late next year and focus on "arcade-style games" and Kinect applications; "true successor" coming sometime after.

Microsoft will have new hardware for gamers next year, but it won't be a next-generation console, according to noted anonymous Microsoft blogger MS Nerd. The information hound wrote on Reddit that Microsoft will ship a stripped-down Xbox in late 2013.

The blogger further posits that the ARM-powered console will focus on "Arcade-style games" and Kinect applications. The technology will be "price-competitive" with Apple TV, which currently retails for $100.

MS Nerd further suggests that the "true successor" to the Xbox 360 will ship sometime after, with the next revision of the Kinect due around 2015.

A Microsoft representative issued GameSpot the following statement:

"Xbox 360 has found new ways to extend its lifecycle like introducing the world to controller-free experiences with Kinect and re-inventing the console with a new dashboard and new entertainment content partnerships. We are always thinking about what is next for our platform and how to continue to defy the lifecycle convention. Beyond that we do not comment on rumors or speculation."

Gamers aren't likely to have official word soon, as Microsoft has previously confirmed that it will not bring new Xbox hardware to the 2012 Electronic Entertainment Expo in June, with 2012 being "all about Xbox 360."

New El Shaddai project teased

Japanese teaser website hints that Ignition preparing news concerning future of action franchise for sometime this year.

A new El Shaddai project appears to be in the works. A Japanese teaser website for the brand has gone live, hinting that news concerning the future of the franchise will arrive sometime in 2012.

The site displays five characters (at right), as well as a line of text, which Andria Sang translates to: "Who is the ultimate angel God speaks of?"

No further information is available, and as of press time, publisher Ignition Entertainment had not responded to GameSpot's request for comment.

El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron shipped in August 2011 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 to a warm critical reception.

Last month, worldwide media and entertainment behemoth Disney acquired Ignition parent company UTV Software Communications as part of the House of Mouse's push into India.
