Xbox 360 maker said to be on the hunt for person to head original TV show push for its console's online platform.
In October, Microsoft announced plans to dramatically expand its efforts to bring content providers to Xbox Live, signing deals with the likes of Comcast, Verizon, and HBO. However, the company has shown an interest in creating original programming as well, going so far as to court late-night talk show host Conan O'Brien while the comedian was still a free agent.
Microsoft hasn't given up on this goal, as Bloomberg reports that the company is aggressively pursuing a TV executive to develop original shows for Xbox Live. Citing sources familiar with Microsoft's plans, Bloomberg says that Microsoft has hired executive recruitment firm Stratis LLC to conduct its search.
Thus far, Microsoft has reportedly approached two former NBC executives, Marc Graboff and Jeff Gaspin. Graboff revealed his intention of leaving NBC last month, having previously led the company's West Coast business operations. Gaspin is a former chairman of NBC Universal TV Entertainment.
Further, the report notes that Microsoft hopes to differentiate itself in the TV space in the same way it does in the game space--by creating platform exclusives. This strategy has led to the creation of such game franchises as Gears of War and Halo.
Microsoft had not responded to a request for comment as of press time.
